OUR STORY

Celebrating 60 Years of God's Faithfulness

Our story isn't defined
by buildings, programs, or milestones.
It's defined by God's faithfulness
and the lives He continues to transform through Jesus Christ.

OUR BEGINNING

It All Began with Prayer

In February 1966, God placed a vision in the heart of Rev. Howard Nelson to begin a simple prayer gathering in the Schaumburg community.

What started with a small group meeting in a home soon became something much greater than anyone could have imagined.

On June 6, 1966, Evangel Church held its very first public service at Winston Churchill School with approximately seventeen people in attendance.

From that humble beginning, God began writing a story that continues today.

OUR GROWTH

A Growing Vision

As the church continued to grow, God faithfully opened new doors. What began as a small gathering soon required more space, more leadership, and greater faith.

In 1970, Evangel Church purchased its first three acres of land, marking the beginning of a new season. Construction followed, and by 1973 the church welcomed its first full-time pastor, Rev. Paul B. Tinlin.

Throughout the years that followed, the sanctuary expanded, new classrooms were built, and in 1982 the congregation celebrated the opening of a new sanctuary in Schaumburg.

Every step reflected God's provision and the faith of a congregation committed to His mission.

"Every new step required
greater faith—
and God proved faithful
every time."

OUR NEW HOME

A Vision Expanded

In 1993, God provided a new opportunity as Evangel Church purchased property in Hanover Park, just off what is now Illinois Route 390.

Four years later, in 1997, the congregation gathered for its first worship service at 5700 Bartels Road—the campus that continues to serve our community today.

More than a new address, this campus became a place where thousands would encounter Christ, families would grow in faith, and future generations would be discipled.

God was preparing Evangel Church not simply for a larger building, but for a greater mission.

"A new campus wasn't
the destination—
it was the beginning
of a greater mission."

OUR MISSION

One Church. Many Campuses.

As Evangel Church continued to grow, God expanded the vision beyond one congregation.

Beginning in 2013, new campus ministries were established to serve people from different cultures and languages while remaining united by one Gospel and one mission.

Today, Evangel Church is home to Evangel Español, Evangel Indian, and Evangel Polish, alongside vibrant English ministries—all working together to help people know Jesus and grow in faith.

Though we worship in different languages, we are one church, united in Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
